Day 7 - Did somebody say guacamole?

Good evening opera supporters,

What a beautiful day filled with sun and fresh air!  Today was one of our scheduled days off and I am positive every member of the program (staff and performing artist) took time to step away from their music today and be human. Even if just for a few hours. Sometimes, in order to be successful, you must allow yourself to be human and feed your soul with things that bring you joy so you can continue to push yourself to be your very best in your professional life.

Brunch with friends

For me, this looked like brunch. Those of you not in NYC or a larger city that do this every weekend, let me tell you, it’s nice!  When I came to New York for the first time in 2015, I did not understand that brunch is very much part of the culture here and as a big fan of breakfast food, brunch is my favorite!  So, I met with an old friend of mine at a Mexican restaurant in Astoria and proceeded to have the best guacamole I’ve ever had in my life alongside an amazing pico de gallo and cheese omelet!  After that it was a stroll down memory lane because my friend was actually the roommate I had stayed with in 2015 and we were right where I had lived in Astoria for a month so I HAD to go and visit the little bakery right off the Broadway stop and get the best cheesecake I’ve ever had and then catch the train home.

Did somebody say guacamole? Yum!

Then it was time for maintenance. Do some laundry, take a nap, listen to my coaching, mark my score, drink water, and watch some tv.   I just finished watching tv with one of the people I am currently staying with and I will be returning to my score to work through a spot that has been giving me some difficulty.

Everyone needs a down day once in a while. It allows you to rest and recoup from the craziness of your life and to check in with yourself. Don’t be afraid to take them. You are worth it!  Completely!

Enjoy your night my lovelies,

Kristen
